The US Congress sanctions bill against Iran is aimed at reaping financial benefits for the GOP architects of the legislation to the detriment of the US economy, writes a Press TV contributor.
In an article posted on Press TVs website on Saturday, Gordon Duff pointed to Irans ongoing nuclear talks with the P5+1 group and noted, Moves in Americas Congress to sneak anti-Iran laws onto the books and destroy vital negotiations have nothing to do with security issues.
This is simple corruption, attempting to keep Iran as an enemy, so that oil markets can be manipulated and the billions stolen each year from Americas defense budget will keep flowing into the secret offshore accounts of right wing members of the US government, he wrote.
The same gang calling for sanctions on Iran is arming Al Qaeda in Syria, pushing for civil war in Ukraine and reinstituting a police state in Egypt, Duff pointed out.
Some hawkish members of the US Congress drafted a bill to impose new sanctions on Iran over the country's nuclear energy program.
The new sanction bill comes despite last Novembers interim nuclear deal between Tehran and the five permanent members of the United Nations Security Council plus Germany sealed in Geneva to pave the way for the full resolution of the Wests decade-old dispute with Tehran over the countrys nuclear energy program.
Under the accord, the six major world powers have undertaken to lift some of the sanctions against the Islamic Republic in exchange for Iran agreeing to limit certain aspects of its nuclear activities during six months. It was also agreed that no more sanctions would be imposed on Iran within the same timeframe.
