'No development in Iran-US relations until Iran's presidential elections'

If BarackObama wins the US election, United States will not negotiate with Iran's current government, Dr. Seyed Mohammad Sadegh Kharazi, Iran's former deputy Foreign Minister has said in 19th Iranian Diplomacy Conference.

Sadegh Kharazi made the remarks in the19th Iranian Diplomacy Conferenceentitled "A Look at the US Elections"as the US presidential elections will beheld on November 6 and both democratic and republican candidates allocated part of their campaigns to Iran.

Dr. Kharazi, former deputy Foreign Minister affirmed in the Diplomacy Conference on US elections that "there will be no practical development in Iran-US bilateral relations until next year's presidential elections in Iran."

Iran's former diplomat added "Americans are well aware that the issue of foreign policy is under the authority of the Leader, which is the highest official of the Islamic system so they have never been and will never be willing to negotiate with Mr. Ahmadinejad's government that has a very negative position in the US political system because of some of its slogans."

"In his recent visit to New York, Ahmadinejad clearly was willing to negotiate with US, but the Americans did not care about these positions; in other words, his approach was not taken seriously since they believe that Ahmadinejad's presidency is about to end," Kharazi was quoted as saying.

He said that "it is clear that the Ahmadinejad's government, in the final days of its presidency, tries to attribute the success of negotiating with America to itself but the country's senior officials are well aware of their objectives and do not allow them to do so."

He also predicted US next government's approach towards Iran and said "any talk of a military strike against Iran is more of a psychological war but sanctions will certainly be on the US agenda."

"In my view, that some officials refer to the sanctions to justify and project their managerial weaknesses is not a way to serve the Iranian nation," Iran's former deputy Foreign Minister said.

Linking the country's economic problems to the sanctions, Iran's current government shows its willingness to negotiate with the US, Dr. Kharazi stressed.

Iranian officials, such as Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, believe that the sanctions have influenced the country's economy, and Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei has called them "illogical" and "barbaric", he said.
