Qatari Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani has said he plans to visit Tehran in the near future to discuss grounds for the enhancement of cooperation between Doha and Tehran.
During a meeting with Iranian Ambassador to Qatar Mohammad Javad Asayesh in Doha on Monday, the Qatari monarch pointed to the age-old and historical bonds between the two countries, stating that Iran, given its might and capabilities, is regarded as a power by all Muslim states.

Asayesh, for his part, noted that Tehran attaches paramount importance to its relations with the countries on the southern shores of the Persian Gulf.

He also extended Iranian President Hassan Rouhanis official invitation to the Qatari emir to pay a visit to Tehran, underling that the visit will yield positive results for both Iran and Qatar.

The Qatari king expressed gratitude for the invitation and hoped to visit Iran soon.

In a meeting with visiting Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif in Doha on December 2, 2013, the Qatari ruler stated that Doha wants a powerful Iran in the region.

He said strong bilateral ties would be beneficial to his country, noting that Tehran and Doha enjoy enormous commonalities and no difference should hinder the expansion of mutual relations.

The Iranian foreign minister, for his part, said the expansion of amicable ties with regional countries is among Irans priorities.
