The head of the Fars Province Department of Environmental Protection reports that an illegal hunter who was caught hunting birds in the Parishan Wetlands of Kazeroon was ordered to prepare a research study about the environment of the region instead of being sent to jail.
The report adds that the offender was laying traps for 38 francolin when he was caught by rangers.
The judge decided that since the young man was only 18 years of age, in an attempt to rehabilitate him and promote a culture of environmental protection, he was given a fine of 152 million rials, which is suspended for one year.
He has also committed to act as a volunteer ranger in Kazeroon during that year; during that period he is to prepare a study of the birds and fish that live in the wetlands and present it to court.
The 42-square kilometre Parishon Wetlands is located 12 kilometres south of Kazeroon on the southern edge of the Zagros mountains.
