Supreme Leader hails status of Iranian women
Tehran, April 19, IRNA Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Ali Khamenei on Saturday hailed status of the Iranian women noting it has been promoted during Irans post-Islamic Revolution era.
One of the greatest glories of the Islamic system of Iran is that it has succeeded to train a large number of intelligent and educated women, said the Supreme Leader addressing a group of elite women on the occasion of the national Womens Day.
Iranians celebrate the occasion on the birth anniversary of the beloved daughter of Prophet Mohammad (PBUH), Hazrat-e Fatemeh (SA). This year, the Womens Day falls on April 20.

The Supreme Leader stressed the need to establish an independent center to draw up proper policies for such a crucial issue as Women and Family Affairs.

Drawing up practical and comprehensive politices for women and family affairs needed three elements including avoiding wrong, reactionary and clich teachings of the West regarding women?s issues, relying on pure Islamic teachings and texts about women and payign due attention to real problems of women.

Referring to the large number of elite women in Iran, Ayatollah Khamenei said it was a blessing and a great honor for the Islamic Iran.

For different reasons, westerners have misunderstood the women issue, the Supreme Leader said adding, all societies should avoid following up the Western patterns for women.

The Supreme Leader added Western patterns of women would lead humanity to no salvation.

Criticizing Wests unfair and reactionary approach towards women, Ayatollah Khamenei said that Wests true impression of women is insulting. ?It understimates women to the extent of being only a tool for the pleasure of men.

In order to have a fair, reasonable and resolving approach regarding women, we must avoid western way of thinking about issues such as employment and gender equality, said the Supreme Leader.
He added that Islam is against considering women as second-class citizens.
