Tehran, April 29, IRNA - Iran has 16 tangible and 10 intangible monuments registered on the World Heritage List, said deputy head of Irans Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts and Tourism Organization (ICHHTO).
Mohammad Hassan Talebian also noted that 50 monuments are on the interim World Heritage List, which number rises annually.
There are over one million ancient monuments and over 200,000 historical sites across the country, he said.
Talebian noted that this year, the dossier of Burnt City in Zabol has been sent for registration.
We recently visited Bam Citadel in southern Kerman province along with UNESCO Director General Irina Bokova, he said.
The official said effective measures have been taken in Bam Citadel in the past 10 years and there is close cooperation between UNESCO and ICHHTO.
Bam Citadel is a unique monument established in desert, he said underlining the need for restoration of this ancient monument.
On December 26, 2003, the citadel was almost completely destroyed by a strong earthquake.
