Iran urges Pakistan to help secure release of abducted border guard
TEHRAN (FNA)- Tehran said it will continue pursuing the fate of its 5th border guard, Jamshid Danayeefar, who was abducted by Jeish al-Adl terrorist group along with four of his comrades in February and has still been kept hostage despite the freedom of the other four, and asked Islamabad to take action to help his release.
"Iran has sought the cooperation of Pakistan in the recovery of abducted fifth border guard," Commander of the Iranian Border Guard Units General Hossein Zolfaqari said on Wednesday.

He noted that the Iranian Interior Minister Abdolreza Rahmani Fazli is pursuing the fate of Danayeefar with Pakistani higher authorities during his visit of Pakistan.

"According to the latest available evidence and documents Danayeefar is alive," General Zolfaqari said.

The Iranian Border Guards commander reiterated that Iranian delegation has raised the issue of safe recovery of the abducted guard during its interaction with the Pakistani officials.

Five Iranian border guards were abducted in Jakigour region of Irans Sistan-and Balouchestan Province on February 6 and taken to Pakistani territory. Four of the abductees were freed in early April. A week before that, Jeish Al-Adl claimed that it had killed Danayeefar. Yet, Iranian officials have repeatedly denied the claim about Danayeefar, saying they are waiting for convincing proof.

Earlier this month, Zolfaqari rejected the claim too, saying it was not substantiated by any proof or evidence.

"Dont accept any quotes about the issue of the border guards, there is no proof substantiating the martyrdom of Danayeefar and no evidence has been presented to us in this regard," Zolfaqari told reporters in Tehran.

The other four Iranian border guards who were handed over to the country's officials in neighboring Pakistan in early April returned home two months after their abduction.

Tehran would by no means accept the death of the fifth kidnapped border guard, and will increase diplomatic efforts to find him, Iranian Interior Minister Rahmani Fazli said.

The Iranian interior minister took the Pakistani government responsible for following up the case of the last kidnapped Iranian border guard.
