Judiciary leader slams “vicious attacks” over Evin incident

The head of Iran’s judiciary says the judiciary has been targeted with “vicious attacks” in recent months, especially in connection with the events in Ward 350 of Evin Prison.
The Mehr News Agency reports that Sadegh Larijani told a meeting of heads of courts across the country that the attacks are aimed at destroying the reputation of the Islamic Republic and its judiciary.

He spoke out against domestic and foreign media that have reflected the news of the recent occurrences in Evin Prison with a negative reflection on the authorities.

Last month, more than 100 soldier guards swarmed Ward 350 of Evin Prison after prisoners protested against what they have described as “a long and aggressive” inspection session.

Reports indicate that many prisoners were beaten and transferred to solitary confinement.

While the families of prisoners asked for accountability, the Head of the Judiciary Ayatollah Larijani denied any wrongdoing by prison authorities and said the inspection was a routine matter.
