Iran opposition activist free after serving term
TEHRAN, Iran (AP) -- A semi-officialIranian news agencysays a prominent opposition figure has left prison after serving his five-year sentence.
Thursday's report by ISNA quotes an unnamed official as saying authorities released Behzad Nabavi, a deputy parliament speaker in the 1990s and a close ally of opposition leader Mir Hossein Mousavi.

Nabavi also served asdeputy prime ministerin the early 1980s, when he negotiated with U.S. officials the release of American hostages held in the 1979 takeover by militant students of the U.S. embassy in Tehran.

He was arrested after opposition members denounced the 2009 re-election of former PresidentMahmoud Ahmadinejadas fraudulent.

Mousavi was the main reformist challenger of Ahmadinejad in the election.

Nabavi was part of a mass trial of more than 100 pro-opposition activists and figuresthat year.
