Iran urges cooperation among Global South nations

Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif has underlined the need for cooperation among the Global South nations to tackle the exiting international challenges.
In todays world, there is a growing need for cooperation among the South countries to counter global problems and challenges in the international arena, particularly in the field of economic developments and negotiations on the environment, monetary and banking talks, and countering economic pressures, Zarif said at the end of the joint session of the Group of 77 developing countries and Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) in the Algerian capital city of Algiers on Friday.

He expressed regret over the low level of assistance that the developed countries provide to the developing nations.

The Iranian foreign minister who participated at the 17th NAM foreign ministerial conference returned to Tehran Friday evening.

The Group of 77 was founded on June 15, 1964, by the Joint Declaration of the Seventy-Seven Developing Countries issued at the conclusion of the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD).

The group is a coalition of developing countries designed to promote its members collective economic interests and create an enhanced joint negotiating capacity in the United Nations. The founding members of the organization were 77 countries, but by November 2013 the number of its member states increased to 133.
