Ayatollah Mahdavi Kani, the head of Irans Assembly of Experts, suffered a heart attack after attending Ayatollah Khomeinis commemoration service.
Some reports indicate the aging cleric is now in coma; however, this has been denied by his office.
The head of Ayatollah Mahdavi Kanis office, in an interview with Tasnim, has confirmed the heart attack but added that he later also suffered from low blood pressure and was in hospital for necessary treatment. He added that Ayatollah Mahdavi Kani is now in recovery.
Mahdavi Kani became the head of the Assembly of Experts after Ayatollah Hashemi Rafsanjani stepped down from the job following the 2009 election controversies.
Mahdavi Kani also heads the Association of Combatant Clergy, one of the top conservative political groups in the Islamic Republic establishment.
