Irans Foreign Ministry has condemned as completely unjusta sentence issued against an Iranian national in the United States.
Ministry Spokeswoman Marziyeh Afkham on Sunday condemned the eight-year-and-one-month prison sentence issued on Friday by the US District of Connecticut against Mozaffar Khazaee, an Iranian-American, on the accusation that he tried to transfer information on American military aircraft out of the United States.
Khazaee was arrested last January after being accused of attempting such transfer.
Unfortunately, a number of our countrys nationals are imprisoned in the United States and some other countries for unjustified reasons and over the allegation that they breached the illegal and illegitimate sanctions [against Iran], Afkhamsaid.
She called the US governments arrest and imprisonment of Iranian citizens for hollow and unfounded reasons unacceptable.
The Islamic Republic has invariably announced that it considers the apprehension of its citizens for hollow reasons and sanctions breach to be illegal and against international law, Afkhamsaid, adding that Tehran insists on the innocence of these people and demands their prompt and unconditional release.
