Delegations of Iran, Syrian government, UN arrive in Astana for Syria talks

TASS- On February 6, Astana hosted the first meeting of the joint group monitoring the ceasefire in Syria that involved experts from Russia, Turkey, Iran, the UN and Jordan

The delegations of Iran, the Syrian government and the UN have arrived in Astana for a meeting on Syria, Kazakhstans Foreign Ministry spokesman, Anuar Zhainakov, told TASS over the phone on Tuesday.

"At this point, I can confirm that representatives of the Russian, Iranian delegations, the Syrian government and the UN have arrived," he said, adding that the rest of the participants are expected to arrive soon.

Earlier,Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Gennady Gatilov said that representatives of UN Secretary Generals Special Envoy for Syria, Staffan de Mistura, will attend the meeting.

"We do not separate the UN from this process," he said.

On February 6, Astana hosted the first meeting of the joint group monitoring the ceasefire in Syria that involved experts from Russia, Turkey, Iran, the UN and Jordan. The group was formed after a conference on the Syrian settlement held in Kazakhtans capital on January 23-24. The next meeting of the joint groups is scheduled for February 15-16.
